350 people celebrate the first Derwen Do

Saturday 19th September 2015 saw Derwen’s very first event for residents. Derwen and Newport care & repair set out to create a lively, social and fun event to bring together staff and residents alike across all of Derwen.

Take a look at the video of the day here..

The inaugural ‘Derwen Do’ was held at St Mellons Country Club in Marshfield. Over 350 residents and family members joined together in the glorious sunshine to form part of the healthy and active ageing themed event. Following a spot of afternoon tea, live music and dancing everyone took time to enjoy the health sessions on offer which included reflexology, laughter workshops, health checks, gardening exhibitions, yoga and lots, lots more.

Also at the event was a magician, photo booth, the Great Derwen Bake Off competition, craft and information stalls, a Now & Then picture show, traditional sweets and popcorn stall, a raffle prize draw and a gift bag to go away with.

The day was also filled with opportunities for staff to test ideas and listen to resident’s vision in terms of housing and landscape design and the services that will enable them to have a great quality of life. Coming soon – a round up of your views and ideas…

Staff learned about resident’s greatest achievements and their favourite things including ‘travelling the world’ and ‘family & friends’. Staff and residents got to know each other better with the ‘Guess Who’ game by matching staff photo’s with their baby photo’s to win prizes. An opportunity to get to know staff and their roles, whilst winning prizes and having a laugh at their photo’s!

The number of smiling faces were testimony to the wonderful afternoon people had. Thank you to all who attended, we look forward to next year ‘Derwen Do’!
