Lots of activity at Derwen Links!
This project, funded by The Postcode Community Trust, aims to build community spirit, friendships and make more use of our Treberth Community Centre. There are a range of activities that have been developed by residents engaging with the project, supported by Derwen staff.
If you are a Treberth or Bishpool resident and would like a calendar of the times/dates of the activities taking place, please get in touch. They are a friendly bunch so you will be sure of a warm welcome. Here is a taste of activities that are on offer.
Music & Memories
A time to reminisce and share your memories of your favourite songs. Listen, sing and dance if you wish!
Knock a Neighbour
Residents can all on a neighbour and take a stroll down to the Community Centre. This is a chance to get to know the people that live in the area.
British History Group
An opportunity to study local history with fellow residents with Gwent Archives.
An afternoon enjoying a friendly game of cards, beetle drive, hoy and other much loved favourites.
Derwen Links aims to recruit Community Champions – residents that are willing to give a small and flexible amount of time to welcome new residents to the estate, offer friendly and informal support at times of change and develop a community handbook containing information that matters to people living on the estate. In brief, to be a good neighbour.
This idea is being developed by residents and supported by Derwen Staff. Staff will aim to offer all the help that is needed to make the neighbourhood even more welcoming, friendly and supportive.
If you are interested in becoming a Community Champion, please do come along to a session for more information (last Thursday of each month, 2.30-4.30pm).
If you think you might benefit from meeting with the community champions (or even a quick chat on the phone), please contact Vic Mills.
Refreshments are provided at all sessions!
We welcome any ideas for events/sessions or anything else to do with Derwen Links.
If you would like to arrange your own session or event (for example, coffee mornings) then please get in touch. The Community Centre is for the use of everyone living in Treberth and Bishpool Estate so if you have any ideas on how we can make more use of it, please feel free to share them!
