Derwen residents celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday
The residents of Derwen joined in the National celebrations by holding various events to celebrate the Queens birthday on Sunday the 12th June.
Our residents got together around the Barbie to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, they even had her Royal highness the Queen herself attend! A lovely time was had by all in the summer sun with a good old chat, lots of laughter, fantastic food and a few drinks, there may be a few sore heads in the morning. Chris Parry, ‘it was an enjoyable afternoon and it’s nice for everyone to get together and have a chat.’ Iris loved being the Queen for the day and said, ‘I’m having an absolutely wonderful Birthday and enjoying every minute’ Clive said, ‘It’s great that these celebrations are bringing people together’
Cwrt Twyn Carn
The local community came together on this sunny Sunday afternoon at the OAP hall in Cwmcarn to join in the celebrations of the Queens 90th Birthday. Resident of Cwrt Twyn Carn Kay Davies being the main organiser of this fantastic event with people of all ages having a great time. With lots of food to enjoy and stalls to peruse it gave something for everyone to enjoy. Eileen said, ‘I had had a lovely afternoon, sociable and lovely food.’ Janet said, ‘it has been really good. Lots of hard work gone into it by Kay.’ Kay had been getting the hall and food ready since 9am. ‘It’s been worth it to see other people enjoying it and all the community have joined in.’
Residents of Manor Court joined in the community spirit to celebrate the Queen’s birthday with a fun day hosted by the town of Usk. On the fields of Owain Glyndwr everybody brought their own picnics to enjoy on this beautiful summers day. There was plenty of fun for all the family with local acts performing throughout the day. Games and competitions for both children and adults included ‘make a crown’ competition and bake a birthday cake competition. The cakes were then shared between everyone whilst the brass band played happy birthday.
